The Yusay-Consing Mansion an old and historic mansion that faces the Town Plaza in Molo, Iloilo. It has fallen into serious disrepair and many thought it was destined for the wreckers ball.
Fortunately, the building and property have been bought by SM Lands Inc which has let it be known that the original building will be restored and refurbished to its former glory and the rest of the property will be developed into some sort of ‘shopping’ development.
The home was built in the 1920s, the Yusay-Consing Mansion was originally owned by Doña Petra Lacson-Yusay. It was later handed down to the family of Timoteo Consing Sr., who served as Iloilo governor from 1935-1937.
The mansion was said to be where Presidents Manuel Quezon and Sergio Osmeña were hosted and stayed in when they would visit Iloilo.
The new owners SM Lands Inc hired Architect Augusto Villalon who with tropiks design studio, developed a re-development strategy called: re-adaptive useage, which entails renovating and refurbishing the original home and turning it over to a cultural museum type of operation and surrounding the building would be a similarly looking shopping complex. It has also been reported that the extensives lawns at the front of the Mansion will be ‘blended into’ the Park across the street which faces Ste Anne’s Church across the street.
Some major cleanup work has been undertaken and the place is starting to look a little cleaner that it had been for years.
